Romeoville, Ill. - The defense of the Lewis University men's basketball team held Saginaw Valley State to a 26.3% (15-for-57) shooting performance from the floor, as the Flyers cruised to the 80-47 regional victory over the Cardinals at Neil Carey Arena.
That is the lowest field goal percentage by a Flyer opponent since Robert Morris-Springfield knocked down 24% (12-for-50) of its shots in a 101-37 loss to Lewis on December 29, 2008. It is also the fewest points by a Lewis opponent since an 83-47 win over Olivet Nazarene on December 6, 2012.
The Flyers forced 19 turnovers, which led to 24 points.
With the win Lewis improves to 1-2 overall, while the Cardinals fall to 1-3 on the campaign.
Lewis junior swingman
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) led four Flyers in double-figures with a game-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting, including a pair of treys, and a game-high four assists.
Lewis senior forward
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) had 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while junior center
Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison) scored 13 points and grabbed six boards off of the bench.
Flyer freshman guard
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) finished with 10 points.
For the game, Lewis shot 49.1% (26-for-53) from the floor, while limiting the Cardinals to a 26.3% (15-for-57) field goal percentage. SVSU shot 8.3% (2-for-24) from beyond three-point range.
The Flyers also knocked down 24-for-30 of their free throw attempts.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 21), as the Flyers head to Michigan for a 7:30 PM ET tip-off against Hillsdale.
