Big Rapids, Mich. - Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had 37 points and 10 rebounds as the Lewis University women's basketball team took down previously unbeaten Ferris State 81-77 Sunday (Nov. 26) at Jim Wink Arena.
The Flyers (4-2) also received 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists from
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and 10 points from
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South).
Riley Blair led four players in double figures for Ferris State (5-1) with 17 points.
Lewis trailed 19-15 after the first quarter, but went on a 10-2 run to take a 27-23 lead midway through the second quarter and led 33-31 at the half.
The Flyers built their lead to as many as 10 points at 59-49 and led 61-52 after three quarters.
The Bulldogs rallied to take a 68-63 lead, thanks to a 16-2 run the first three minutes of the fourth quarter.
Lewis answered with 10 straight points to take a 73-68 lead before Ferris State scored the next five points to tie the game at 73-73 with 1:11 left in the game.
Hinders gave the Flyers the lead back with 45 seconds left on a layup and then the Flyers went 6-for-6 from the line to finish the game.
Lewis shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the floor, while Ferris State shot 33.7 percent (28-for-83).
The Flyers open their Great Lakes Valley Conference season Thursday (Nov. 30) when they travel to take on Southern Indiana for a 5:30 PM tip.
