Box Score Romeoville, Ill. - For the third straight year the Lewis University women's volleyball team has won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Michigan Tech 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-20) Thursday (Nov. 30) in a Midwest Regional quarterfinal match at Neil Carey Arena.
The win moves Lewis to 32-2 on the year, while Michigan Tech ends its season 20-11. The 32 wins are the most for Lewis since the 2009 season when it won 32 games.
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) helped four Flyers get double figures in kills as she dished out 43 assists.
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) led the way with 15 kills, while
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall)Â and
Bailey Sparkman (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) each had 13 kills and
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) added 11 kills.
Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) had six block assists, while Sparkman added four block assists. Seliga tallied 11 digs and four aces, Ronni Katarzynski had 20 digs and Hyland contributed 11 digs.
The Flyers totaled 11 blocks and eight aces for the match. They hit .266 (58-of-158) from the floor behind a .444 percentage (13-for-27) from Sparkman and limited Michigan tech to a .159 (45-of-151) hitting percentage.
Lewis, the top seed in the Midwest Regional, advances to the semifinal where it will play host to No. 4 Ferris State at 7:30 PM Friday (Dec. 1).
