Normal, Ill. - Illinois State used a 31-7 run spanning over the first and second halves to pick up the 79-52 victory over the Lewis University men's basketball team in the Flyers' exhibition finale at Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena on Sunday (Nov. 5).
Lewis redshirt sophomore
Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) topped the Flyers with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers.
Freshmen
Brandon McCombs (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville),
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) and
Bailey Basala (Moline, Ill./North Scott (IA)) each chipped in seven points apiece off the bench for the Flyers.
As a team, Lewis shot 36.7% (22-for-60) from the field and 27.8% (5-for-18) from three-point range. The Flyers committed 16 turnovers, which led to 16 points for Illinois State. Illinois State also held a 41-28 advantage in rebounds in the win.
Illinois State's Milik Yarbrough scored 25 points off the bench, while Redbird guard William Tinsley knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 17 points.
Illinois State shot 48.1% (25-for-52) from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers.
Lewis opens the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 11), as the Flyers meet Northern Michigan for an 8 PM ET tip-off at Michigan Tech.
