Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Indianapolis went on a 13-4 run over the final five minutes - punctuated by a go-ahead lay-up by Martha Burse (17 points, 5 assists) with 13 seconds left, as the host Greyhounds earned the 59-55 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University women's basketball team at Nicoson Hall on Thursday (Feb. 16) night.
The Flyers had a chance to send the game into overtime, but a jumper by redshirt senior guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) went array with one second remaining. Johnson finished with a game-high 25 points, including five three-pointers.
Lewis also received 14 points and five rebounds from sophomore forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North).
With the win, UIndy improves to 15-11 overall and 9-7 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 20-6 on the campaign and 12-4 in conference play.
The Greyhounds shot 43.8% (21-for-48) from the field and 38.9% (7-for-18) from three-point range. Lewis knocked down 40.4% (21-for-52) of its shots and 40% (6-for-15) of its long-range attempts. The Flyers did not have a field goal over the final five minutes of the contest.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 18), as the Flyers head to Rensselaer, Ind., for a 1 PM meeting against Saint Joseph's.
