Johnson Breaks Scoring Mark As Lewis Women's Hoops Beats UW-Parkside, 77-55

Johnson (20 points) shatters mark previously set by former teammate Mariyah Brawner-Henley.

Somers, Wis. - Lewis University redshirt senior guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) broke the school scoring record with a game-high 20 points to lift the Flyer women's basketball team to the 77-55 victory over UW-Parkside in the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season finale at DeSimone Gymnasium on Thursday (Feb. 23) night.

Johnson shattered the previous mark of 1,981 points set by former teammate Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North). The South Holland, Ill., native now has 1,996 career points.

With the win, Lewis improves to 21-7 overall and 13-5 in GLVC action, while the host Rangers drop to 10-16 on the campaign and 8-10 in conference play.

Lewis freshman forward Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) netted a season-high 18 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Flyers shot 47.5% (29-for-61) from the floor and 50.0% (6-for-12) from three-point range. UW-Parkside knocked down 34.4% (21-for-61) of its shots and 21.1% (4-for-19) from long distance.

Lewis was solid defensively as they forced 19 turnovers - including 11 steals - and scored 19 points off of the Ranger miscues.

The victory helped Lewis secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2017 Deaconess GLVC Championship Tournament in Evansville, Ind. The Flyers will play a to-be-determined opponent on Friday, March 3rd at a to-be-determined time.
