Lewis Baseball Completes Series Sweep Over McKendree (W, 4-3; W, 8-4)

Flyers end season with a record of 16-34 and 10-18 in GLVC play.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team ended its 2017 campaign on a positive note, as the Flyers completed the Great Lakes Valley Conference series sweep over McKendree, earning 4-3 and 8-4 wins over the Bearcats at Brennan Field on Saturday (May 6).

Lewis ends the season with a record of 16-34 overall and 10-18 in GLVC action. McKendree finishes the campaign with a mark of 13-34 and a conference record of 2-24.

With the score tied at three, Lewis took advantage of two McKendree errors in the seventh inning and scored the winning run on a Bearcat miscue that would have ended the frame, giving the Flyers the 4-3 walk-off victory.

Lewis designated hitter Kenny King (Orland Park, Ill./Providence ) went 3-for-3 and drove in a run, while sophomore left fielder Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) roped a solo home run in the Flyer victory.

Lewis senior reliever Nick Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) picked up the win for the Flyers, allowing three unearned runs and two hits, while striking out one batter in an inning of work.

Lewis junior designated hitter Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill. /St. Joseph's) went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-run home run and two-run double, to push the Flyers to the 8-4 win and the series sweep over the Bearcats.

Flyer senior center fielder Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) and King each had two hits and scored two runs, while freshman catcher Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill. /St. Laurence) went 2-for-4.

Lewis senior hurler Jake Herron (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) scattered four runs and eight hits in 8.1 innings of action while fanning five batters to earn the victory for the Flyers.
