Men’s basketball returns home to face Hawks and Cardinals

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's basketball team returns home hosting Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday evening. On Saturday the Flyers (8-10, 3-5 GLVC) take on William Jewell in a 3 p.m. contest.

Thursday night's contest will be the third annual Christian Brothers Bash and on Saturday the All-Decades (2000s) men's team will be honored at halftime of the men's game.

Lewis snapped a three-game losing streak with its 66-58 win at Wisconsin-Parkside on Monday evening. The Flyers shot 57 percent (13-for-23) from the floor in the second half and went 8-of-12 from three in overcoming a five-point halftime deficit.

Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) led three players in double figures with 17 points while Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) added 14 and Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) finished with 12. Marco Pettinato (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) provided a spark off the bench scoring all eight of his points in the second half.

Lewis locked down the Rangers on the defensive end in the second half limiting them to just 37 percent shooting and held them to 1-for-11 shooting from beyond the arc.

Blaylock leads the Flyers in scoring averaging 16.1 points per game while Wilson is dropping home 15.1 per contest and Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) is contributing 11.9 per outing. Wilson also leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 boards per game.

ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks come into Thursday's contest with a record of 8-8, 2-5 GLVC and have dropped four straight contests. Rockhurst dropped a 107-95 decision at home against Truman State last Saturday. Alex Hagan led the Hawks with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting in the contest while Quinton Curry collected a season-high 26 points and 13 rebounds. Rockhurst shot 55.5 percent from the field in the contest.

The Hawks are averaging 77.1 points per game but have been giving up 77.9 per contest. They're shooting 45 percent (428-for-950) from the floor, have connected on 34 percent of their attempts from three and are shooting 68 percent at the foul line. They've outrebounded their opponents by 2.3 rebounds per game (35.4-to-33.1).

Curtis Lewis leads the team in scoring with 14.9 per contest and is joined in double figures by Curry who is dropping home 12.7 per outing. Auston Rushing is contributing 11.9 per game and Hagan is adding 10.9 per night. Hagan leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 per game and Lewis has dished out a team high 72 assists.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals are 15-2, 5-2 GLVC heading into their contest at Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday evening. In its last outing, Jewell won its second straight and sixth in its last seven outings with an 88-67 win at Missouri S&T. The Cardinals broke open a tight game with a 27-4 midway through the second half.

Pharroh Gordon led four Jewell players in double figures with 21 points while Keith Hayes added 20, Patrick Whelan dropped in 15 and Easton Koch finished with 14 points. The Cardinals shot 54 percent from the field and went 11-for-26 from downtown.

Whelan leads the team in scoring with 19.1 per contest. Hayes is adding 18.9 per contest, Byron Harp is contributing 14.1 per outing and Gordon is averaging nearly 13 points per game. Gordon leads the team club in rebounding with 10.4 rebounds per game and is tied with Harp for the team lead in assists with 46.
