Women’s basketball hosts Rockhurst to begin home stretch

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team plays five of its next seven games at home beginning on Thursday when it hosts Rockhurst at 5:30 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The homestand continues on Saturday against William Jewell with a 1 p.m. tip-off.

Thursday night's contest will be the third annual Christian Brothers Bash and on Saturday the All-Decades (2000s) women's team will be honored at halftime of the women's game.

The Flyers (14-4, 7-1 GLVC) ran their win streak with a dominant performance at Wisconsin-Parkside on Monday evening. They led by 16 at halftime and then locked down the Rangers in the second half holding them to a total of 21 points in the 87-51 victory.

Lewis had 11 different players score in the contest led by Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) with 24 points and she also grabbed 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Chrissi Ekhomu (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic) added 17 points off the bench while Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) and Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) chipped in with nine points each.

The Flyers have been shooting the ball well from beyond the arc the past two games shooting 50 percent (20-for-40). Ekhomu, Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages), Reilly Olmstead (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI) have made four three-pointers each the last two games.

Lewis leads the GLVC in field goal percentage shooting 47.1 percent from the field and are third in the league in scoring averaging 74.4 points per game. Kelliher continues to lead the league and Division II in scoring with her 24.8 points per contest. She's also fourth in the GLVC in rebounding grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game.

ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks come into Thursday's contest with a record of 7-8, 3-4 GLVC and have lost six of their last seven contests. Rockhurst dropped a 75-52 decision at home against Truman State last Saturday. Madeline Ronshausen led the Hawks with 19 points in the contest while Jillian Myers added 13. Rockhurst shot only 38 percent from the field in the contest.

The Hawks are averaging 63.4 points per game but have been stingy on the defensive end yielding just 62.8 per contest. They're shooting 39 percent (338-for-859) from the floor, have connected on less than 30 percent of their attempts from three and are shooting 73 percent at the foul line. They've outrebounded their opponents by three rebounds per game (37.5-to-34.5).

Ronshausen leads the team in scoring with 15.8 per contest and is joined in double figures by Myers who is dropping home 12.1 per outing. Kaci German leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 per game and Myers has dished out a team high 64 assists.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals are 7-7, 4-3 GLVC heading into their contest at Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday evening. In its last outing, Jewell suffered a 64-59 defeat at Missouri S&T on Monday for their second straight loss. The Cardinals rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take a 55-53 with 3:42 left but the Lady Miners responded with an 11-4 run the rest of the way to pull out the victory.

Katie Finn and Adriana Rodriguez led Jewell with 16 points each while Kayla Harrell finished with 14 points. The Cardinals shot 36 percent (22-for-61) from the field but struggled from the three-point line making just 6-of-30 attempts.

Harrell leads the team in scoring in with 13 points per game and is joined in double figures by Sydney Offield at 10.6 per contest. Offield also leads the squad in rebounding with 5.3 per contest.
