Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team was defeated by Rockhurst 79-70 Thursday (Jan. 18) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers fall to 8-11 on the year overall, 3-6 in the GLVC. Rockhurst moves to 9-8 overall, 3-5 in the GLVC.
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) paced the Flyers with 24 points.
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) had 19 points and nine rebounds and
Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) had 12 points.
Lewis shot 28-for-62 for the game (45.2%), while Rockhurst shot 28-for-51 (54.9%). Rockhurst had a 29-28 rebounding edge and outscored Lewis at the foul line 15-6.
The Hawks' Curtis Lewis led all scorers with 29 points.
Lewis never led in the game, but after falling behind 5-0, came back to tie the game at 5-5 on a layup by Wilson. Rockhurst answered with the next seven points.
The lead grew to 10 points at 25-15 before Lewis responded with seven straight points to make it 25-22 with 7:14 left in the first half. However, Rockhurst came right back with seven straight to build a 32-22 lead.
Lewis again fought back, scoring eight straight to make it 32-30 with 3:42 left in the half. Rockhurst finished the half leading 37-32.
A Pischke three-pointer cut the deficit to two points at 37-35 to open the second half before Rockhurst steadily built its lead back to 10 and eventually 13 at 60-47 with 8:48 left in the game.
Blaylock would score 15 points over the final eight minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Flyers never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Lewis will look to get back in the win column Saturday (Jan. 20) when it hosts William Jewell at 3 PM. During halftime of the game the All-Decades Team of the 2000s will be introduced.
