Kirksville, Mo. - The Lewis University women's basketball team used strong second and third quarters to defeat Truman State 73-58 Saturday (Jan. 6) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Pershing Arena.
Lewis led 15-13 after the first quarter, but built its lead to 35-25 lead at the half, thanks to a 10-1 run midway through the second quarter.
The Flyers finished the third quarter on an 8-1 run to lead 56-38 after three.and maintained a double digit lead the rest of the game.
The win moves the Flyers, winners of four straight, to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the GLVC, while Truman falls to 8-3, 3-1 in GLVC.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) scored 26 points on 11-for-13 (84.6%) shooting for Lewis. She also pulled down 11 rebounds, had four assists and three steals.
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) added 11 points and
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.
The Flyers shot 25-for-52 (48.1%) from the floor, while the Bulldogs shot 23-for-60 (38.3%).
Lewis held a 41-32 rebounding advantage.
The Flyers are back at home Thursday (Jan. 11) as they welcome Bellarmine. Tip off is at 5:30 PM.
