INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 19th ranked Lewis women's volleyball team fell to Davenport 3-1 in its Midwest Region Crossover finale on Saturday afternoon at The Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) led the Flyers (16-6) with 15 kills in the contest while
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) finished with 37 assists and
Ronni Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) ended up with 23 digs.
Lewis was held to a .109 hitting percentage in the contest while the Panthers (12-11) hit .246 for the match and recorded 48 kills. The Flyers had 45 kills but committed 28 errors.
Lewis led by as many as five in the opening set at 15-10 after a kill from
Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg). Davenport cut the deficit to three on a double block from Megan Herr and Ashley VanderHorst.
The Flyers stretched their lead back to five on a bad set to make it 24-19 and then won the set 25-20 on a kill from Hyland.
The Panthers led by three early in the second set before Lewis came back to take its only lead of the frame at 10-9 after a solo block from Stefanon. Davenport used a 7-1 run to regain the lead and wouldn't trail the rest of the set on its way to a 25-18 victory.
The Panthers used a 13-5 run midway through set three and led 17-10 and the Flyers wouldn't get closer than seven the rest of the set as Davenport won 25-18.
Lewis surrounded the first four points of set four and were unable to climb out of the hole trailing by as many as nine in the frame. The Flyers got as close as six points on multiple occasions but were unable to get any closer as the Panthers won 25-16.
Lewis is back at home on Friday hosting William Jewell at 7 p.m. Friday's match will be "Playing For Preemies" Night with all fans encouraged to wear purple to the match.
