Lewis Women’s Soccer Falls To Truman State 3-1 In GLVC Quarterfinals

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Lewis women's soccer team fell at Truman State 3-1 in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Truman Soccer Park in Kirksville, Mo.

The Flyers, seeded eighth, got on the board first with a goal in the 15th minute. Kianna Clark (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake South) scored an unassisted goal from 15 yards out. She shot from the right side of the penalty area and put into the upper left corner for her first goal of her career.

Lewis had a chance to add to its lead in the 26th minute but Karly Soy's (Eldridge, IA/North Scott Senior) header attempt hit the crossbar and stayed out.
The Bulldogs (14-3-1), seeded first, evened the score in the 39th minute off a corner kick. Hanna Hickey scored her fifth goal of the season with assists from Jen Seithel and Chance Douglass. Douglass served the ball into the box and Seithel headed it to Hickey who scored from five yards out.

Truman took the lead less than three minutes later as Douglass scored on a shot from 30 yards out for her third of the season.

The Bulldogs had an 8-7 edge in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal.

Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) had a couple of chances to tie the game in the 56th but had one shot blocked and another saved by Beth Hopwood.

Truman added an insurance goal with less than 25 minutes to play as Kacie Trueman scored from five yards out off a cross from Douglass for her first goal of the season.

The Flyers applied pressure on the Bulldog goal in the final 10 minutes as they took seven shots but were unable to put anything in the back of the net. Karlie Cummins (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) came the closest in the 87th minute but had her shot saved off the line.

Lewis finished the game outshooting Truman 20-16 but the Bulldogs held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Flyers finish their season with a record of 9-7-2 and were 8-5 in the GLVC.
