No. 23 Lewis Women’s Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets to No. 25 Rockhurst

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The 23rd ranked Lewis women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 25 Rockhurst in the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday evening at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill. Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) finished with a double-double recording 13 kills and recording 10 digs in the contest.

The Flyers (25-7) opened the match on an 11-3 run but the Hawks (28-6) responded with a 12-4 run of its own to even the set at 15 on a kill from Emily Matio. The two sides then swapped points until Rockhurst began to take control late in the set.

The Hawks took a 20-18 lead on a kill from Mary Rolf and then closed out the set scoring five of the final seven points to win 25-20.

Rockhurst held Lewis to a .111 hitting percentage in the frame and forced the Flyers to commit nine attack errors.

The Hawks led wire-to-wire in the middle frame. They raced out to a 7-1 lead but Lewis made a run to get within 10-8 after a double block from Ava Venema (Westmont, Ill./Timothy Christian) and Colleen Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic).

Rockhurst extended its lead back out to six thanks to a 5-1 run.

The Flyers wouldn't get closer than four the rest of the set as the Hawks pulled away late to win 25-19.

Rockhurst hit .275 in the second stanza while holding Lewis to a .138 attack percentage.

The third frame saw five ties and three lead changes. It was tied 8-8 when the Hawks began to break away thanks to a 5-2 run. The Flyers cut the deficit to two on a couple of occasions but were unable to get any closer as Rockhurst pulled away late to win 25-20.

Lewis was held to a .155 hitting percentage recording 42 kills against 19 errors in 148 chances. Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) added nine kills to the attack while Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) contributed seven kills off the bench. Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) handed out 34 assists and Ronni Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) finished with 17 digs.

The Hawks hit .231 in the contest registering 45 kills against 14 errors in 134 opportunities. Karli Reichert led Rockhurst with 12 kills while Emma Kriete added nine kills. Dani
Prusha had 32 assists and Kalie Arnold finished with 28 digs.

The Flyers will find out their NCAA fate during the NCAA Selection Show at 9 p.m.
