ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball hosts the 14
th ranked Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles in its home finale this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers (21-6, 14-3 GLVC) can move up in the GLVC ratings system with a win over the Screaming Eagles on Saturday.
Saturday's contest is the second meeting between the two clubs with Southern Indiana picking up a 67-56 win in Evansville back on Nov. 30. The Eagles held Lewis to a season-low 28.4 (21-for-74) shooting percentage in the first meeting.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) and
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) led the Flyers with 16 and 15 points respectively.
Last weekend, Lewis bounced back from a loss at fifth ranked Drury last Thursday with a hard fought 87-80 win at Missouri S&T on Saturday. Kelliher led three Flyers in double figures with 31 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds for her 11
th double-double of the season.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 20 points while
Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) finished with 12 points each.
Kelliher continues to lead Division II in scoring with her 25.1 points per game after her performance at S&T and became the school's single season scoring leader surpassing Darcee Schmidt with 679 points. Kelliher holds two of the top three spots in school history for single season scoring. Hinders is dropping home nearly 12 points per game while Green is averaging 9.1 points per contest and has dished out a team best 115 assists.
ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA: The Screaming Eagles enter play this week with a record of 23-2, 15-1 GLVC heading into Thursday's game at Wisconsin-Parkside. With a win over the Rangers, USI will clinch its second straight GLVC East title.
The Eagles increased their season-long win streak to 12 games with victories at William Jewell and Rockhurst last weekend. It is their longest winning streak since they collected 12 straight victories in 2009-10 and it's their second-longest winning streak since they won 15 straight in 2000-01.
Kaydie Grooms led USI last weekend averaging 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while Morgan Dahlstrom chipped in 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest and Alex Davidson averaged 13.0 points per outing.
Grooms and Dahlstrom are the top two scorers for the Eagles averaging 17.8 and 16.9 points per game respectively. Dahlstrom is the top rebounder in the GLVC grabbing 10.4 rebounds per game while Randa Harshbarger has dished out a team best 90 assists.
