OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – On its conference bye weekend, the Lewis baseball team stepped outside of Great Lakes Valley Conference play and split a doubleheader with Oakland City Saturday (April 28) at Pinnick Field. The Flyers dropped the first game 1-0 but rebounded to win the second game 7-2. Lewis is now 18-23-1 overall, while Oakland City is 13-27.

Game 1 – Oakland City 1, Lewis 0
The only run scored in the pitcher's duel occurred in the bottom of the first inning as a single and double from the first two batters plated a run for the Mighty Oaks. From there Lewis pitcher
Pete Hamot (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) (4-4) shut down the Mighty Oaks, going all six innings, allowing four hits and the one run, striking out seven. Caleb Wagner (3-7) earned the win for Oakland City, giving up just three hits.

The biggest threat for the Flyers came in the top of the seventh inning.
Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) led off with a single. After a pop out,
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) singled to center. A ground out put runners on second and third with two outs, but a pop up to the shortstop in shallow left field ended the game.

Game 2 – Lewis 7, Oakland City 2
Both teams scored early runs in the second game as the Flyers scored twice in the first and Oakland City answered with a run in the bottom of the first.
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) drove home the first run on a single to center and later scored on a
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) single up the middle. Lewis extended its lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning as
Jermaine Terry (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) knocked in a pair of runs on a double to right center field.
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) made it 5-1 in the fifth with a RBI groundout to shortstop. After a Mighty Oaks run in the bottom of the fifth made it 5-2, Lewis closed the scoring in the seventh when
Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) homered to right center field, scoring Rutherford.

The top four batters for the Flyers combined to go 9-for-15 with five runs scored and four RBI. Tyrell went 3-for-4, while Cavalieri and Bloom each went 2-for-4 and Rutherford was 2-for-3. On the mound
Blake Marks (Gardner, Ill./Gardner-South Wilmington) (6-3) went all seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, striking out three.
