EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It was another day of close losses for the Lewis baseball team as it dropped a pair of two-run games, 4-2 and 5-3 to Southern Indiana Saturday (April 7) in Great Lakes Valley Conference games at the USI Baseball Field. Lewis now sits at 10-18-1 on the year, 4-7 in the GLVC, while USI is now 16-13 overall, 8-4 in GLVC.

Game one – USI 4, Lewis 2
The Flyers took an early lead in the contest as a single by
Jermaine Terry (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) scored
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) for a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Screaming Eagles came back with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) added a RBI groundout, scoring Terry in the sixth.

Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) reached base all four trips to the plate for the Flyers, recording a hit and three walks, while Tyrell reached base four times with a hit, a hit by pitch and two walks. Devin Williams (3-3) earned the win for USI, while
George Manikas (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (1-2) had the loss, allowing four runs in five innings, striking out four.
Ryan Ward (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) pitched a scoreless inning in the sixth.

Game two – USI 5, Lewis 3
Lewis trailed 3-0 through five innings, but scored three times in the sixth to tie the game. Tittle drove home all three runs with a home run to left center field on a full count. Tyrell and
Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill./St. Joseph's) scored on the play. The Screaming Eagles retook the lead in the eighth inning with a pair of runs.

Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove), Tyrell and Tittle (3 RBI) all had two hits for Lewis. Tylre Hagedorn (3-2) picked up the win, while
Brady Kostecki (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (0-3) had the loss.
Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita) pitched six innings for the Flyers, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, striking out four.

The Flyers open up an 11-game home stretch Wednesday (April 11) when they play host to Saint Xavier at 3 p.m. at Brennan Field.
