Caledonia, Mich. - For the second straight game the Lewis University men's soccer team ended its game in a 0-0 tie, this time against 24th ranked Saginaw Valley State Friday (Sept. 7) in a neutral site nonconference game in Caledonia, Mich.
The Flyers move to 0-1-2 on the season, while the Cardinals are now 1-0-2.
Saginaw Valley had the advantage throughout much of the first half, leading 8-2 in shots, with two of those coming on goal. However, it was the Flyers recording the lone corner kick of the half. It was Lewis with the advantage in the second half, leading 4-2 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks but the lone shot on goal belonged to the Cardinals.
Late in the first overtime Saginaw Valley had a scoring opportunity with a shot on goal by Brady Walker at the 98:45 mark, but
Edgar Avila (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) came up with the save. The ensuing corner kick from the Cardinals also came up empty.
In the second overtime,
Alexis Robles-Ibarra (Harvard, Ill./Harvard)Â had a shot go wide for the Flyers at the 103:44 mark, while a header by Joe Wright went wide for Saginaw Valley with just 11 seconds left.
Avila made four saves in goal for Lewis to pick up his second shutout of the season.
The Flyers return to action Sunday (Sept. 9) for an 11 a.m. kickoff at Davenport.
