ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Despite dominating on the stat sheet Lewis' women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Drury on Friday evening at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers fall to 7-7-3, 5-6-3 GLVC while the Panthers improve to 2-13-2, 2-11-1 GLVC.
Lewis outshot the Panthers 11-1 in the first 45 minutes, put five on goal and had 60 percent of the possession in the frame. The Flyers had a scoring opportunity in the second minute but
Kailey Parnello's (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) shot was saved.
Maddie Levins (Elmhurst, Ill./York) had a chance in the 10th minute which was saved off the line by a Drury defender.
Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) had two chances in the span of 5:30 but both shots were saved by Kaitlyn Knetzke. Parnello had another chance in the 33rd minute but Knetzke made a leaping save to prevent the goal.
The Panthers scored the lone goal in the 42nd minute. Kennedy Thompson picked up a loose ball and shot it from 28 yards out. The ball took a high bounce and went into the goal for her first of the season.
Parnello had a chance 77 seconds into the second half but was denied by Knetzke. She had another chance in the 51st minute but once again was denied.
Karlie Cummins (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) had a chance in the 68th minute but Knetzke made the save.
Levins had another chance in the 78th minute that was saved by Knetzke.
Lewis finished the contest with a 20-1 advantage in shots, 9-1 in shots on goal and 14-1 in corner kicks. Parnello led the Flyers with 11 shots and had four on goal.
Lewis concludes its regular season on Sunday hosting Southwest Baptist at 12 p.m.
