LEBANON, Ill. – Lewis' men's basketball team held a one-point lead at halftime but struggled to score in the second half of its 63-54 loss to Michigan Tech at the Harry Statham Sports Center on Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. The Flyers fall to 0-2 while the Huskies improve to 2-0.

Lewis fell behind early before going on a 12-1 run over a span of 3:20 to take its biggest lead of the game at 24-15. Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) had six points in the run while Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame), Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) and Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) each added two points.

Michigan Tech cut the deficit to three on back-to-back three-pointers from Kyle Monroe near the midway point of the first half. Lewis extended its lead back to eight thanks to a 7-2 run. Reinhart hit his third three of the half while D'Avanzo added four points in the run.

The Huskies closed the half on a 10-3 run to cut the Flyer lead to 34-33 at the half.

Lewis shot 50 percent (13-for-26) in the opening half and was 6-of-12 from downtown and 2-for-2 at the foul line. It outrebounded MTU 17-14 but turned the ball over six times. Reinhart and D'Avanzo had nine points apiece to lead the Flyers while Bell added seven and Pischke had six.

Monroe led all scorers with 20 points in the half on 7-of-13 shooting and was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Tech shot 39 percent (11-for-28) as a team and was 6-of-15 from three and shot 83 percent at the foul line.

Both sides struggled to score in the first eight minutes of the second and the game was tied at 39 after a layup by D'Avanzo with 12:26 left.

The Huskies took the lead for good with five straight points and never let Lewis get closer than three points the rest of the contest. Michigan Tech pulled away thanks to a 12-3 run in a span of 3:12 to take a 58-46 lead.

The Flyers cut the lead to 58-52 with 1:22 to play on a pair of free throws by Pischke but the Huskies sealed the game at the line hitting five of its last seven attempts at the foul line.

D'Avanzo and Pischke were the lone Lewis players to reach double figures in scoring as D'Avanzo had 18 and Pischke finished with 10. The Flyers were held to just 23 percent shooting in the second half (7-for-31) and went 1-of-13 from downtown.

Lewis' defense did a better job on Monroe in the second half limiting him to just three points but Tech had three players in double figures as Dawson Bilski and Owen White added 14 and 13 points respectively. The Huskies shot 35 percent (10-for-29) in the second half, were 4-of-16 from three and shot 75 percent at the foul line.

The Flyers open the home portion of their 2019-20 schedule next Saturday (Nov. 16) hosting Wayne State (Mich.) at 4 p.m.
