LEBANON, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team fell at McKendree 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill.
The Flyers had three great chances early in the contest.
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) had a shot in the third minute that was saved,
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) hit a shot off the crossbar in the ninth minute and
Allie Mikos (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) had a shot saved in the 10th minute.
The Bearcats (14-3-2) broke the deadlock on a goal with 15 minutes left in the half. Emma Knoebel put a shot in with an assist from Riley Ross. McKendree nearly added to its lead in the 36th minute but
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) made a save on Madyson Mossman's attempt.
The Bearcats outshot Lewis 5-3 in the first 45 minutes but each side had two shots on goal. McKendree had a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Flyers had a chance at the equalizer 0:33 into the second half but Mikos was denied by Zoe Brochu.
Jamie Hansen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) had a chance as well in the 55th minute but her shot was saved by Brochu also.
The Bearcats added an insurance goal in the 70th minute as Ross scored with an assist from Alynnah O'Leary.
Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) tried to cut the lead in half in the 75th minute but her shot was saved by Brochu. Mikos had another chance with 2:41 to play that was saved by Brochu.
Lewis outshot McKendree 5-3 in the second half and put four of those shots on goal but were unable to get anything past Brochu.
Mikos led the Flyers with three shots, all on goal, in the contest.
Lewis ends its season with a record of 8-8-3 and finished 6-6-3 in the GLVC.
