Flyers Drop Exhibition Contest At Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team dropped its exhibition contest at Northwestern 89-34 on Wednesday evening at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill.

The Wildcats opened the game on a 17-3 but the Flyers were able to cut the deficit to 10 on back-to-back baskets from Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI). Northwestern scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 23-7 lead into the quarter break.

Lewis was held to 23 percent (3-of-13) shooting in the corner and was 0-for-5 from downtown while the Wildcats hit 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) in the first 10 minutes.

The Flyers trimmed Northwestern's lead to 18 points with less than six minutes to go in the second quarter. The Wildcats closed the half on a 14-3 run to take a 44-15 lead into the half.

Lewis was held to 19 percent (5-for-27) shooting in the half and was only 2-of-12 from three. Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) led the Flyers with five points while Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and Reilly Olmstead (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) added three each.

Northwestern was 18-for-32 (56.3 percent) from the field in the first half and 3-of-9 from three. Lindsey Pulliam led all scorers with 12 points while Sydney Wood added 10.

The Flyers did a better job on the defensive end in the third quarter holding the 'Cats to just 17 points and 28 percent shooting from the field. Lewis' offense shot 30 percent in the quarter and knocked down a pair of three's in the stanza.

It was all Northwestern in the fourth quarter as it outscored the Flyers 28-9. Freshman guard Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) scored all five of her points in the final quarter on 2-of-5 shooting and was 1-for-3 from three.

Glatczak, Hinders, Black and Hilber had five points each to lead Lewis while Carley Graverson added four. Glatczak added six rebounds and five blocked shots.

The Wildcats had four players reach double figures in scoring and were led by Pulliam, Wood and Byrdy Galernik with 15 points apiece.

The Flyers open their 2019-20 season at home on Saturday (Nov. 9) hosting Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. It'll be part of a doubleheader that day as Northern Michigan will take on William Jewell at 1 p.m.
