ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 14 Lewis women's volleyball team was defeated by No. 19 Rockhurst in straight sets on Friday evening in the NCAA Midwest Region semifinal round at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers finish the season with a record of 28-6 while the Hawks improve to 31-7.

Lewis led 17-12 in the opening set and appeared to be in control before Rockhurst began to cut into the lead. The Flyers still led 20-17 after a kill from Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) but the Hawks scored the final eight points of the frame to win 25-20. Alyssa Woodman had two kills in that run for Rockhurst while Audrey Arand and Justice Wingate had a kill apiece.

The Hawks carried that momentum into set two building an early three-point lead. Lewis came back to tie the set at 6-all and 14-all but were never able to take the lead. Rockhurst closed the second set with a 7-2 run to win it 25-19.

The third set was similar to the second as the Hawks raced out to an early lead only to see the Flyers come back to tie the set at 10. Rockhurst broke it open with a 9-3 run and wouldn't allow Lewis to get closer than five points the rest of the way on its way to a 25-16 victory.

The Hawk defense held the Flyers to season lows in kills (29) and hitting percentage (.078). Colleen Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) led Lewis with 11 kills while Van Loo added five. Mikah Freppon (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had 12 assists and Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) finished with 11 digs.

Karli Reichert led Rockhurst with 11 kills and Arand added 10. Dani Prusha had 36 assists and Arand finished with 21 digs. The Hawks hit .233 (43/16/116) for the match.
