Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Rallies For 10-7 Victory Over Aurora In Exhibition Contest

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women' lacrosse team overcame an early 3-0 deficit scoring eight unanswered goals to defeat Aurora 10-7 in an exhibition contest on Thursday evening at Lewis Stadium. Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) led the Flyers with six goals while Mackenzie Turner (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added two and Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) and Scarlet Kellner (Holland, MI/West Ottawa High School) had one goal each. Kellner also had two assists.

The Spartans struck first on an unassisted goal by Kristina Krokosz less than six minutes into the contest. Kendall Urban and Janne Brown scored a pair of goals 0:30 apart to put Aurora in front 3-0.

Lewis' offense got going late in the half as Jines scored with 11:36 left in the frame to get the Flyers on the board. She added another goal with less than five minutes to play in the half to cut the lead to 3-2 at the intermission.

Turner opened the second half scoring with two goals in the first minute. She tied the game at 29:25 and then put Lewis ahead for good with her second one 0:22 later. Jines followed it up scoring three goals in the span of 4:15 to extend the lead to 7-3. Traub scored with exactly 15 minutes left to put the Flyers up five.

The Spartans got back-to-back goals from Urban in the span of 87 seconds to cut the Lewis lead to 8-5.

The Flyers responded as Kellner scored at 9:46 to extend the lead to four and then Jines capped the scoring with a goal with an assist from Kellner 73 seconds later to make it 10-5.

Aurora scored a pair of goals in the final 2:10 to get within 10-7.

Lewis opens its inaugural season on Sunday (Feb. 24) traveling to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Alabama-Huntsville at 12 p.m. at Maryville University.
