OZARK, Mo. – Lewis' baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader on Saturday at Drury 7-3 and 11-1. The Flyers fall to 3-3 on the season while the Panthers improve to 5-4.
"We really need to get back to competing the way we are capable of," Lewis head baseball coach
Tim McDonough said. "Drury is a solid team but we're just not playing our style of baseball right now.
"It's amazing what a difference a week makes," McDonough continued. "We have tomorrow to get back on track and I believe we will. We just need to be more mentally tough and slow the game down."
Game 1 – Drury 7 Lewis 3
The Panthers got on the board with two in the first but Lewis answered right back with two of their own in the second.
Andrew Tenison (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) doubled to left center to drive in
Ryan Schefske (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) with the first run and then Tenison scored on an RBI single from
Troy Hajdukovic (Palatine, Ill./Fremd).
Drury regained the lead with three in the third on an RBI double from Clayton Engel and single from Collin Fraley.
The Flyers got a run back in the fourth on an RBI single to left from Hajdukovic to score Tenison. Lewis had a chance for more but left the bases loaded.
Drury added to its lead with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Flyers were outhit 8-5 in the contest with Hajdukovic leading the way with two hits and two RBIs. Tenison,
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) and
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) had a hit apiece.
Blake Marks (Gardner, Ill./Gardner-South Wilmington) took the loss allowing six runs on six hits with five walks and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
Game 2 – Drury 11 Lewis 1
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead with two in the first and one in the second. They added to their lead with four in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Lewis got on the board with a run in the seventh.
Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored on a groundout with the bases loaded with two outs. Drury scored two runs on three hits in the home half of the seventh to end the game.
The Flyers finished with six hits in the contest and were led by Rutherford with two.
Brad Littleton (Coal City, Ill./) fell to 1-1 on the season allowing seven runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
Lewis concludes its series with Drury on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
