ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' softball team hit three home runs to defeat Truman State 5-0 in game one of its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Softball Field. The Bulldogs overcame a 1-0 and 3-1 deficit to take the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings.
The Flyers improve to 10-14 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC while Truman State rises to 13-4, 3-3 GLVC.
Game 1 – Lewis 5, Truman State 0
Morgan Weber (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) put Lewis ahead hitting a lead-off home run to center on the second pitch of the game for her second home run of the season. The Flyers tacked on another run later in the inning when
Lauren Brennan (Cantonment, Fla./J.M. Tate) walked with the bases loaded to score
Cierra Taylor (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew).
Taylor made it 4-0 hitting a two-run shot to left center in the bottom of the second to drive in
Maddy Beck (Racine, Wis./Case) with two outs.
Elexis Swartzentruber (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) added an insurance run hitting a solo home run to right center to lead off the sixth inning.
That would be all the run support that
Cassie Shaw (Moline, Ill./Moline) needed as she held the Bulldog bats to just six hits in the contest in the complete game effort to improve to 3-6 on the season.
Lewis finished with seven hits in the contest led by Taylor with two.
Game 2 – Truman State 4, Lewis 3 (8 innings)
The Flyers broke on top with a run in the third inning. Swartzentruber led off the inning with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice. She moved to third on Weber's single through the right side and scored on Beck's single through the right side.

Alexandra Piatt (Granger, Ind./Penn). Reisinger scored on Emma Walbert's single over the drawn infield.
Lewis regained the lead with two runs in the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Taylor and Shaw and a fielder's choice from
Kristin Kavalauskas (Oak Forest, Ill./Tinley Park).
The Bulldogs tied the game with two runs in the sixth on three hits. Maria McGonegle drove in a run with a groundout to short and Reisinger drove in the tying run with a single to second. Truman tried to score the go-ahead run from second but
