ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's lacrosse scored a program best 11 goals but fell to Ashland 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday evening at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers fall to 1-6, 1-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Eagles improve to 4-6, 3-4 GLIAC.
Ashland scored 0:29 into the contest on Sofia Michael's first of eight goals in the contest. Lewis responded with two goals in the span of 3:02 to take a 2-1 lead.
Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) scored to tie the game 0:21 after Michael's goal and then
Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) scored to put the Flyers in front.
The Eagles evened the score on a goal from Renee Ruppert with 22:36 left in the opening half. The Flyers responded by scoring three of the next four goals to take a 5-3 lead.
Scarlet Kellner (Holland, MI/West Ottawa High School) put Lewis ahead and then Traub added her second of the game. Michael cut the lead to 4-3 at the 12:07 mark but the Flyers answered back 0:22 later to regain their two-goal advantage on Brittany Scharf's fourth of the season.
Ashland countered with three goals in the span of 88 seconds to retake the lead. Lewis evened the score in the final seconds of the first half as Kellner scored on a free position shot.
The Eagles scored the first two goals of the second half to grab a two-goal lead. Traub scored her third of the game with less than 20 minutes to play to make it an 8-7 game. Ashland scored twice in the span of 1:36 to take its largest lead of the game at 10-7.
Jines brought the Flyers back to within two but Michael scored her final goal of the game to put the Eagles back in front by three.
Jines scored three straight goals to even the score with the final one coming at the 4:01 mark.
In the extra period, the Eagles won the draw control and came down and scored 0:47 into the frame on a goal from Cora Wilson to win the game.
Jines recorded a single-game record scoring five goals in the contest. Traub added three and Kellner finished with two.
Madeline Scherf (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha South High School) picked up three ground balls while Traub won six draw controls.
Faith Engle (Marysville, OH/Marysville High School) made eight saves in goal.
Lewis begins a four-game roadtrip on Friday as it travels to St. Louis to take on Maryville at 5 p.m.
