ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team fell in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament 4-2 on Friday at the UIndy Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind. The Flyers fall to 7-8 on the season while the Tritons improve to 9-5.
Missouri-St. Louis won the point in the doubles competition winning two of the three doubles matches.
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) fell to Salome Bleuler and Odette Beagrie 6-3 at No. 2 doubles while
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) lost to Bianca Buie and Clara Lopez Bueno 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Lewis led 4-3 in the first set of No. 1 doubles between
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) and
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Marina Prediger and Leticia Lunge but was unfinished.
The Flyers won the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Pilzova held off Bleuler to win 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2 singles and Trus defeated Prediger 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Lewis had a chance to take a 3-1 lead in the match with Sredojevic up a set at No. 3 singles but she lost the final two sets 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2 to Beagrie.
Reisch fell at No. 4 singles to Buie in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) lost to Lunge 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) trailed Bueno 6-1 and 5-2 at No. 6 singles when the match was called.
The Flyers travel to Elkins, W.V. to take on Davis and Elkins on Wednesday (April 24) at 3 p.m. (CT).
