ASHLAND, Ohio – Lewis' women's lacrosse team scored a program record 17 goals but came up short in 22-17 defeat in its season finale at Ashland on Sunday afternoon.
Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) scored a single game best six goals while
Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) added four and Brittany Scharf finished with three.
The Eagles (5-11, 4-8 GLIAC) score the first three goals of the contest but the Flyers countered by scoring five of the next six goals to take a 5-4 lead just past the midway point of the first half.
Ashland responded by scoring eight goals in the span of seven minutes to take its largest lead of the half at 12-5. Lewis battled back scoring three of the next four goals to cut the deficit but the Eagles scored right before the end of the half to take a 14-8 lead into the intermission.
Ashland dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half outscoring the Flyers 6-2 to extend its lead to 20-10 but Lewis wouldn't quit as they scored seven of the final nine goals over the final 13 minutes to get within 22-17 before time ran out.
Traub won six draw controls and
Faith Engle (Marysville, OH/Marysville High School) picked up six ground balls.
The Flyers finish their inaugural season with a record of 1-12 overall and 1-11 in the GLIAC.
