Lewis Baseball Drops Series Finale To Illinois Springfield

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' baseball team dropped the final game of its three-game series against Illinois Springfield, 17-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field in Springfield, Ill. The Flyers fall to 15-17 on the season and 10-11 in the GLVC while the Prairie Stars improve to 21-11-1 overall and 12-9 GLVC.

The Flyers jumped out to the early lead scoring two batters into the game. Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) led off the game with a double down the right field line and scored on Connor Rutherford's (DePere, Wis./DePere) single to center.

Lewis had a chance to add to its lead drawing back-to-back one out walks in the second but were unable to drive them in.

UIS took the lead scoring three runs in the third, added two more in the fourth, five in the fifth and seven in the sixth to take the commanding lead.

The Flyers added two runs in the seventh. Peyton Pallan (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) led off the inning with a double to left, went to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout to third. Later in the inning Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) drove in Scott Garrow (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) with a single to center.

Lewis was held to five hits in the contest with Cavalieri recording two of them while Post, Rutherford and Pallan had a hit apiece Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita) took the loss allowing five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

The Flyers are back at home on Thursday taking on Purdue Northwest in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. at Brennan Field.
