MARQUETTE, Mich. – Lewis' men's soccer team picked up its second straight double overtime victory and third overall with a 2-1 win at Northern Michigan on Thursday afternoon. The Flyers, ranked seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region rankings, improve to 3-0 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 1-2.

Lewis struck first scoring in the final 90 seconds of the first half when Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) scored his first collegiate goal of his career.

The Flyers outshot NMU 6-3 in the first 45 minutes and held a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.

The Wildcats controlled play for a majority of the second half outshooting Lewis 6-1 and put four shots on frame. NMU scored the equalizer in the 84th when Vegard Ervall scored moments after C.J. Couper (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) made a save on Ben Hoffman's attempt.

Lewis had a pair of scoring opportunities in the first overtime frame as Giovanni Campero (Rockville, Md./Wootton) took a shot in the 97th minute that was saved and Baumann, bidding for his second goal of the day, was denied by Jonas Vorbau in the final minute of the period.

Couper kept the game tied making a save on Hoffman's attempt two minutes into the final 10 minutes. The Flyers got the game-winner with 1:42 to play when Campero found Oliwer Mattiasson (Vanerborg, Sweden) who put it in the back of the net for his second game-winning goal of the season.

Lewis was outshot 11-10 in the contest but each side had six shots on goal. Baumann led the Flyers with two shots on goal. Couper made five saves in goal.

Lewis returns home this Sunday to take on Illinois Springfield in the GLVC opener for both clubs at 2:30 p.m. at Lewis Stadium. The Prairie Stars improved to 2-1 on the season with a 1-0 win in overtime against Parkside on Thursday.
