Flyers Look To Bounce Back This Weekend

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team looks to bounce back after a tough loss at Lindenwood this past Sunday as it heads back to Missouri to take on Maryville at 1 p.m. on Friday and Missouri S&T on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Flyers are 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC play.

Last Time Out: Lewis split its two matches last weekend defeating Missouri-St. Louis 2-1 last Friday before falling at Lindenwood 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Allie Mikos (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and Payton Emond (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) accounted for the Flyer offense in the win over the Tritons.

Shots, Shots, Shots: Lewis is averaging 13 shots per game while holding their opponents to less than 10 per contest. The Flyers are tied for sixth in the conference with Indianapolis with 78 total shots. Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) leads the team in shots with 20 while Mikos and Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) have taken 10 shots apiece.

Game-Winners: Parnello is ranked 11th in Division II and second in the GLVC with her two game-winning goals. Parnello also leads the GLVC in assists with three.

About Maryville: The Saints enter Friday's contest with a record of 4-0 and are 3-0 in the conference. Last weekend, they picked up a pair of wins defeating Drury 5-0 last Friday and then defeated Southwest Baptist 3-1 on Sunday.

Maryville has outscored their opponents 11-1 to begin the season. It's allowed the fewest goals in the GLVC to this point in the season and has a goals against average of 0.25. The Saints are second in the conference with three shutouts.

Alex Johnson leads the team with four goals and nine points while Kristen Sparks, Amanda Kaltwasser and Kennedy Reeser have two goals and five points each.

Alison Riddle has played half the minutes in goal this season allowing one goal with a goals against average of 0.50 while making five saves.

About Missouri S&T: The Miners earned their first win of 2019 last Friday defeating Southwest Baptist 2-1 in double overtime. S&T fell at Drury on Sunday 2-1 to drop to 1-3-1 and 1-2 in league play.

Kayla Foster is the team's leading scorer with two goals and one assist for a total of five points. Julia Crets, Jess Haller and Peyton Carter have tallied a goal apiece.

Rylee Hanes and Kristin Steins have split time in goal this season with Hanes allowing three goals while Steins has allowed five. Each keeper has made nine saves.
