ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Lewis' men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season falling at sixth ranked Maryville 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Maryville Field in St. Louis, Mo. The Flyers fall to 5-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the GLVC while the Saints improve to 7-0, 5-0 GLVC.
Maryville had the edge in shots 3-2 in the first 45 minutes but Lewis had the game's first scoring chance.
Conor Mohr-Condron's (Hamburg, Germany/Oberstufe Foorthkamp) shot in the 31st minute was saved by Liam Walraven. The Flyers had another chance just before the half but
Jayson Iniguez's (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport Township) shot was blocked.
The Saints broke the scoreless draw less than five minutes into the second half when Rasmus Tauts scored off an assist from JD Sohn. Sohn passed it in from the right wing and Tauts scored from seven yards out into the lower left corner.
Lewis had four shots in the second half but were unable to put anything on frame. The Flyers finished the contest with a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
C.J. Couper (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) made one save for the Flyers.
Lewis concludes its four game road swing with a visit to Rolla on Sunday to take on Missouri S&T at 2:30 p.m.
