KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Lewis University men's basketball team fell at Truman State 85-58 on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo. The Flyers fall to 8-7, 3-4 GLVC while the Bulldogs improve to 10-5, 6-1 GLVC.
Artese Stapleton (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) led Lewis with 12 points while
Donovan Oliver (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) finished with 10 points and
Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) added eight points.
The Flyers trailed 15-11 with less than 13 minutes to play in the first half but were outscored 22-7 over the final 13 minutes of the stanza as Truman took a 37-18 lead into halftime.
Lewis hit only 7-of-27 (26 percent) shots in the first 20 minutes and were 1-of-7 from three while the Bulldogs shot over 57 percent (15-of-26) from the floor and outscored the Flyers 24-to-6 in points in the paint.
Lewis wouldn't get any closer than 17 points in the second half.
The Flyers shot over 54 percent (18-for-33) from the floor in the second half and finished the game shooting over 41 percent from the field.
Truman continued its hot shooting in the final 20 minutes hitting 20-of-28 shots from the field and finished the game shooting nearly 65 percent from the field.
Lewis looks to bounce back on as it wraps up its three-game road trip at Illinois Springfield on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.
