INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Lewis University men's basketball team saw its six game winning streak snapped in an 82-67 loss at 11th ranked Indianapolis on Thursday evening at Nicoson Hall. The Flyers drop to 6-4, 1-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 9-1, 1-1 GLVC.
Lewis got off to a hot start hitting 13 of its first 19 shots including 7 of 8 from downtown to build a 32-24 with six minutes to play in the opening half.
UIndy went on a 14-6 run over the final six minutes of the half to tie the game at 38 at the half.
The Hounds scored the first eight points of the second half but the Flyers responded with five straight points to cut the margin to 46-43 with 15:03 left in the game.
UIndy continued to hold that three-point advantage over the next three minutes before scoring nine straight points to extend the lead to 59-47 on a three-pointer from Marcus Latham with 10:28 remaining.
Lewis countered with an 8-2 run over the next 1:33 to get back to within six behind six points from
Artese Stapleton (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood).
That would be the closest the Flyers got though as the Greyhounds ran off the next seven points to build a 13-point lead and wouldn't let Lewis get closer than seven points the rest of the contest.
After its hot start to begin the game the Flyers were held to just 29 percent shooting (12-of-42) and was just 2-for-18 from three.
Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) led four Lewis players in double figures with 18 points while
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) added 17, Stapleton finished with 12 and
Donovan Oliver (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) added 11 off the bench.
Cory Miller Jr. led all scorers with 19 points in the contest. Latham, Trevor Lakes and Jacob Polakovich finished with 16, 15 and 10 points respectively.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday as they travel to Louisville to take on top ranked Bellarmine at 2:15 p.m. (CST). The Knights defeated Illinois Springfield 81-57 on Thursday evening.
