CHICAGO, Ill. – The Lewis University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 4 University of Chicago on Saturday (Jan. 25). The Flyers are 0-1 on the season while the Maroon are 1-0.
In doubles competition, Lewis' No. 1 team of
Juan Martin Ramirez Meija () and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) lost to Ninan Kumar and Tyler Raclin 8-6.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia) fell to Erik Kerrigan and Jeremy Yuan at No. 2 doubles 8-1. At No. 3 doubles,
Jeremy Charles () and
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill.) lost to Sachin Das and Julius Kim 8-2.
In singles play, Ramirez Meija defeated Kerrigan 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Lusti lost in straight sets 6-7 (8-10) in a first set tiebreak and dropped the second set 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles it was Ambrozic falling to Das 6-4, 6-1, Trifunovic lost in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 9-11) at No. 4 singles to Alejandro Rodriguez. At No. 5 singles Charles was defeated by Alex Guzha 6-0, 6-0 and Maghirang lost to Bailey Forgus 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Lewis returns to the courts on Friday (Feb. 7) taking on Walsh University in Canton, Ohio beginning at 6 p.m. (CST).
