ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team returns to the court this weekend for a game against McKendree on Friday at 3 p.m.
Lewis (3-2, 3-2 GLVC) bounced back from an 11-point loss at Southern Indiana with a 68-63 win at Quincy last Saturday afternoon.
Lindsay Harrison (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) and
Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) had 13 points apiece in the contest while
Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) added 12 points while
Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 11 points. Schmidt also pulled down a team best six rebounds.
Lewis enters Friday's contest with four players averaging double figures in scoring on the young season. Badali leads the way averaging 12.4 points per game while Schmidt is contributing 12.0 points and a team leading 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) is adding 11.4 points per outing and Hilber is averaging 10.0 ppg.
Badali is shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc while
Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) is shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the three-point line. Badali is also averaging a team best 4.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game.
About McKendree: The Bearcats snapped a two-game losing streak with a 79-63 victory over Southwest Baptist on Monday evening in Lebanon, Ill. Christy Fortune led all scorers with a 33-point performance on 13-of-16 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-3 from downtown and was 4-of-6 at the foul line. She was joined in double figures by Callie Pohlman with 14 points while Jenna Krause added 12 points off the bench.
McKendree shot 61.2 percent from the floor and was 8-for-13 from three in the contest.
For the season, the Bearcats are averaging 62.4 points per game this season and are led in scoring by Fortune with 14.0 points per game. Madison Jones is contributing 11.6 points per contest while Sydney Diekhoff is averaging 11.2 points per outing. Jones leads the team in rebounding with 7.2 rebounds per contest.
Flyers vs. Bearcats: Lewis leads the all-time series against McKendree 11-1 and has won 11 in a row. Last season the Flyers picked up a 71-62 win over the Bearcats in Romeoville behind a 23-point performance from
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) while
Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and
Kaitlyn Williams (Homer Glen, Ill./Joliet Catholic) added 17 and 12 points respectively.
