ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team begins its final homestand of the season on Thursday as it hosts Maryville at 5:30 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The homestand continues Saturday as the Flyers welcome Missouri S&T to Neil Carey Arena for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
Last Time Out – The Flyers used a strong defensive effort to post a 69-50 victory at Southwest Baptist last Saturday.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) led Lewis with 23 points and 13 rebounds. The Flyers held the Bearcats to 31.6 shooting in the contest.
Christian Brothers Bash – Thursday's contest will be the Fifth Annual Christian Brothers Bash at Neil Carey Arena. There will be free pizza, drinks and prizes for Lewis students in the Fieldhouse after the games.
Senior Day – Lewis will recognize its five seniors:
Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist),
Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI) Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago),
Carly Graverson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and Hinders prior to the start of Saturday's game with the Miners.
Moving On Up – Hinders has moved up to 12th on Lewis' all-time scoring list with 1,399 points and she is 101 points shy of becoming the 12th player in school history to reach 1,500 points in a career.
About Maryville – The Saints enter Thursday's contest with a record of 12-9 on the season and are 7-7 in the GLVC. In their last game they rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat McKendree 69-65. Mary Barton finished with a game-high 30 points in the contest and was 19-for-19 at the foul line while Jayda Jensen added 16 points.
Barton leads the GLVC and is sixth in Division II in scoring with 23.1 points per game. She has reached double figures in scoring in every game this year, has scored at least 20 points in a game 18 times and at least 30 twice this season. Abby Monis leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 per game while Barton has dished out a team-high 92 assists.
Series vs. Maryville – Thursday's contest marks the 12th meeting all-time between the Flyers and Saints with Lewis having won two straight and nine of 11 overall. Last season, the Flyers defeated Maryville 86-67 in Romeoville.
About Missouri S&T – The Miners are 7-14, 3-11 GLVC on the season and have lost six straight heading into Thursday's contest at Illinois Springfield. S&T dropped a 79-70 decision at home to Southern Indiana last Saturday.
Laura Rodriguez leads the Miners in scoring with an average of 13.0 points per outing. She is joined in double figures by Mykala Baylor who is averaging 11.6 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding with 10.4 per game. Alex Kerr is contributing 11.2 points per outing. Marta Durk leads the team with 67 assists.
Series vs. Missouri S&T – Lewis leads the series with the Miners 15-3 and has won seven straight and 13 of the last 14 overall. The Flyers have won five of the six meetings against S&T at Neil Carey Arena.
