ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University senior guard
Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) scored his 1,000th career point in the Flyers 74-57 win over Maryville on Thursday evening at Neil Carey Arena. With the win Lewis improves to 12-11, 7-8 GLVC while the Saints fall to 5-16, 1-14 GLVC.
The two sides went back-and-forth over the first 10 minutes of the game as there were seven ties and four lead changes.
The Flyers took the lead for good on layup by
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) as part of a 16-4 run spanning over six minutes giving Lewis a 34-24 lead.
However, Maryville scored the final three points of the half to cut the Flyer lead to 38-31 heading into the locker room.
The Saints cut the lead to five with a basket to begin the second but Pischke's three from the left wing extended the lead to eight to give him 1,001 points for his career.
Maryville wouldn't closer than five the rest of the contest as Pischke's ignited a 12-2 run to give Lewis a 50-35 lead with 14:41 to play in the contest.
The Flyers lead was cut to seven with 5:26 to go on a jumper in the paint by Ross Ryan but Lewis responded closing the game on a 13-3 run for the final margin.
Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) finished with a game-high 22 points to lead three Flyers in double figures in scoring.
Brandon McCombs (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville) matched his career-high with 16 points while Bell finished with 14. D'Avanzo also had a game-high nine rebounds.
Lewis shot over 59 percent (32-for-54) in the contest, was 6-of-17 from three and shot 50 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded the Saints 31-to-27 and had 17 assists on their 32 made field goals.
Chris White led Maryville with 13 points while Ryan added 12 and Jalen Gant finished with 12 off the bench. The Saints shot 43 percent (25-for-58) in the contest, were 2-of-12 from three and shot 71 percent at the foul line.
The Flyers continue their final home game of the season on Saturday hosting Missouri S&T at 3 p.m.
