Flyers Travel To Southwest Missouri This Week

Lewis to visit Drury, Southwest Baptist

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's basketball team hits the road to southwest Missouri when it visits Drury on Thursday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday. Game time Thursday at Drury in Springfield, Mo. is set for 7:45 p.m., while tip-off against Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. is 3 p.m.

Last Time Out – The Flyers lost a battle with eighth-ranked Bellarmine 77-60 at Neil Carey Arena last Saturday. Lewis fell behind by nine to start the game and were unable to get closer than six points the rest of the contest. Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) led all scorers with 19 points while Marco Pettinato (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) added 12 points of the bench.

Leading the Flyers in 2019-20 – D'Avanzo leads three Lewis players averaging double digits with 14.6 points per game with junior guard Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) following with 12 points per outing. D'Avanzo has the team-lead in rebounding with 7.9 per contest while junior center Brandon McCombs (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville) is second with 4.2 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) leads the team with 73 assists on the season.

Lewis leaders on the road – D'Avanzo is Lewis' top scorer on the road with 16 points per game. He is followed by Bell who is averaging 12.4 points per contest while Pischke and Artese Stapleton (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) are contributing 11.4 and 10.3 points per outing respectively away from home.

About Drury – The Panthers enter Thursday's contest with a record of 13-7, 6-6 GLVC after picking up two home wins over Missouri S&T and Maryville last weekend. Conley Garrison leads Drury in scoring with 15.3 points per game while Cal Hartley is averaging 13.0 points per outing. Garrison also leads the team in rebounding with 4.9 rebounds per game.

Series vs. Drury – Thursday's contest marks the 18th meeting all-time between Lewis and Drury with the Panthers having won 13 of 17 contests including both games last season. Drury defeated the Flyers in the regular season 93-54 in Springfield and then again 69-67 in overtime in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament.

About Southwest Baptist – The Bearcats enter Thursday's game with Illinois Springfield with a record of 16-4, 9-3 GLVC. SBU bounced back from a 21-point loss at Indianapolis with home wins over Maryville and Missouri S&T last weekend. Brady Smith leads four Bearcat players averaging double digits with 15.4 points per game with Damian Prgomet following with 13.3 points per outing. Gquinn Nelson and Godfrey Rolle are averaging 12.7 and 10.9 points per contest respectively. Prgomet leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 rebounds per game.

Series vs. Southwest Baptist – Saturday's game marks the first meeting all-time between Lewis and Southwest Baptist.

Up Next – The Flyers return home on Thursday (Feb. 13) to take on Maryville at 7:30 p.m. The game with the Saints is also the Christian Brothers Bash.
