SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Lewis' women's basketball team ran into a buzz saw on Thursday night in a 114-63 loss at top ranked Drury at the O'Reilly Family Events Center in Springfield, Mo. The Flyers fall to 13-8, 10-3 GLVC while the Panthers improve to 22-0, 13-0 GLVC.
Lewis shot the ball in the well contest making 47.4 percent (27-for-57) of its attempts but turned the ball over 29 times which Drury turned into 37 points. The Panthers also outrebounded the Flyers 39-to-27 which included 15 offensive rebounds and 20 second chance points.
Drury shot over 68 percent in the first quarter as it raced out to a 19-point lead. Lewis cut the lead to 14 2:34 into the second quarter but that was the closest it got as the Panthers outscored the Flyers 21-8 over the final 7:26 of the half.
Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led Lewis with a career-high 18 points while
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 14 points.
Hailey Diestelkamp led all scorers with 21 points and was one of five Drury players to reach double figures in scoring in the contest.
The Flyers return to the court on Saturday afternoon taking on Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. in Bolivar, Mo.
