ELKINS, W. Va. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team rolled past Davis & Elkins 20-6 on Thursday afternoon at Nuttall Field in Elkins, W. Va. The Flyers improve to 5-2 on the season while the Senators fall to 0-7.
D&E scored first with a goal six minutes into the contest when Matthew Dyck scored with an assist from Tyler Kolodka.
Lewis responded scoring the final four goals of the first quarter to take the lead into the second quarter.
Karl Flinter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair),
Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount),
Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) and
Luke Majewski (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) each scored in the quarter.
The Senators scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the Flyer lead to 4-3, but Lewis got a goal from
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) with 2:58 left in the half to take a 5-3 lead into the break.
The Flyers broke it open in the third quarter outscoring D&E 6-1 in the stanza and was led by Kask with a pair of goals.
Lewis put the contest out of reach in the final quarter tallying nine goals to just two for the Senators. Kask scored the first three Flyer goals in the final frame and added a fourth one late in the quarter.
Lewis recorded 51 shots in the contest and put 36 of those on goal. The Flyers picked up 41 ground balls and won 24 of 29 faceoffs in the contest. Kask led all scorers with seven goals while Dalep and Purfeerst added three goals apiece and Flinter and
Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) had two goals each. Dalep also finished with a team-high three assists.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made seven saves in goal to pick up his fifth win of the season.
The Flyers were supposed to conclude their road trip at Walsh on Saturday but that match has been canceled.
