Lewis Women’s Basketball Falls To No. 1 Drury In GLVC Championship Game

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team fell to top ranked Drury 77-55 in the championship game of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center. The Flyers drop to 19-12 while the Panthers are now 32-0.

Lewis scored four of the first five points to begin the game, but Drury ran off 15 of the next 17 points to take a 16-6 lead. The Panthers held the Flyers scoreless for nearly seven minutes until Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) hit a three-pointer from the left wing.

Drury scored the final bucket of the quarter as Hailey Diestelkamp tipped in a missed shot right before the buzzer.

Lewis scored the first seven points of the second quarter to cut the Panther lead to 18-16 as Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) combined to score all seven points.

Drury extended its lead back to seven with five straight points, but Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) ended the run hitting a three-pointer from the left corner to cut the deficit to four.

Lauren Holmes answered Hart's three with one of her own on the other end as the Panthers ended the half on a 9-2 run to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Flyers shot 32 percent (8-for-25) from the floor in the first half and were 3-of-6 from three but turned the ball over 20 times resulting in 11 points for Drury.

The Panthers were held to 27 percent shooting (11-for-41), were 4-of-10 from three and shot 60 percent at the foul line.

Lewis got an old fashioned three-point play from Glatczak to cut the Drury lead to 32-24 at the beginning of the third quarter but the Panthers ran off 12 straight to extend its lead to 20 points.

The Flyers countered with an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 14 points with 5:30 left in the quarter. That would be the closest they got as Drury ended the quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 60-36 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Lewis outscored the Panthers 19-17 in the final quarter while shooting over 61 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough as finished with the 22-point victory.

The Flyers finished the game shooting 42 percent (23-for-55) from the field, were 6-of-14 from three and shot 75 percent at the foul line. They outrebounded the Panthers 47-to-37 in the contest. Glatczak led Lewis with 11 points while Hilber and Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI) added nine points each.

Drury shot 35 percent (27-for-76) from the floor, was 6-of-16 from three and shot 71 percent (17-for-24) from the foul line. Hailey Diestelkamp led all scorers with 25 points in the contest while Paige Robinson finished with 22 points.

Glatczak and Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) were named to the GLVC All-Tournament team.

The Flyers will find out on Sunday (March 8) evening if they'll receive an at-large berth to next week's NCAA Midwest Regional.
