Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University's women's soccer team seeks to carry its momentum from last weekend as it heads into its final home games of the regular season this weekend. The Flyers will take on Drury on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and then will conclude the weekend on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Southwest Baptist for senior day.
Last Time Out - The Flyers picked up two wins last weekend defeating Rockhurst 2-0 with goals from
Raina Spencer (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and
Faith Lewis (Corunna, Ind./DeKalb) and then rallied for a 5-2 win at William Jewell on Sunday afternoon. Five different players scored for Lewis against the Cardinals.
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) made a career-high 11 saves at Rockhurst and added two more at William Jewell.
Race for the GLVC Tournament – With only four games left to play in the regular season the Flyers continue to secure a spot in the GLVC Tournament. After their back-to-back wins last weekend, Lewis is currently tied for fifth along with Missouri S&T with 17 points each. The Flyers and Miners are both currently ahead of Southern Indiana by one point and they trail number four Indianapolis by two points.
Drury currently holds the top spot with 25 points and is two points ahead of McKendree in second and four points ahead of Truman state in third.
The top four teams in the final standings will host a first round contest with the highest remaining seed hosting the semifinals and finals.
League Leaders – Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) is tied for first with five assists and is seventh in points with 13. Havelka-Vanderplow is also tied for ninth in goals with four. Clark is fifth in goals against average with 0.70, tied for fourth in save percentage at .833, and eighth in saves with 40.
About Drury – The Panthers enter Friday's contest with a record of 10-2-1 overall, 8-1-1 GLVC. Last weekend they lost 2-1 to Southern Indiana and tied with McKendree 1-1 on Sunday afternoon. Drury has scored 24 goals this season as a team and are led by Elsa Gonzalez with eight goals. She is followed by Chloe Cash, Andrea Camargo, Tara Simon, and Kennedy Thompson with two goals each. Kaitlin Knetzke has played the majority of minutes in goal and has made 23 saves with a goals against average of 0.25.
About Southwest Baptist – The Bearcats enter Sunday's contest with a record of 2-9-1 overall, 2-8-0 GLVC. Last weekend they were shutout in both contests against Indianapolis (3-0) and Southern Indiana (1-0). Southwest Baptist has scored a total of five goals this season and are led by Maya Cofield and Raegan Edwards with two goals each. Allyson Leiber has added one goal. Alli Harrington has played the majority of minutes in goal and has made 62 saves this season with a goals against average of 1.73.
Series Stuff – Drury leads the all-time series against Lewis 10-4-2 dating back to 2005 and is 7-3 in the last 10 matchups. Last season the Panthers picked up a 1-0 win over the Flyers in Springfield, Mo. The Flyers are 4-2-2 in the series at home.
Lewis leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 2-0. Last season the Flyers won 3-0 at SBU. This will be the second matchup all-time between the two sides in Romeoville.
