ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's basketball team continues its three-game road trip with a trip to Hillsdale, Mich., to take on seventh ranked Hillsdale at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening and then concludes its road trip with a trip up to Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Saturday to take on Lake Superior State at 2 p.m. (CST).
The Flyers (0-3) are still seeking their first win of the season after dropping its last outing at Wayne State 68-66 last Wednesday evening.
Connor Niego (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) led Lewis with 17 points in the contest while
Bruno Williams (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Beau Frericks (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) added 13 points apiece.
Niego leads the Flyers in scoring and rebounding through the first three games with 14 points and 8.7 rebounds per outing. Williams is adding nine points per contest while Frericks is dropping in 8.3 per game.
Lewis has struggled shooting the ball this season making just 39 percent of its attempts from the including shooting just 27.5 percent from three and 60 percent at the foul line. It's also getting outrebounded by seven boards per game.
The Chargers enters Tuesday's contest with a record 3-1 after splitting their two contests last week. Hillsdale was defeated by Ferris State 89-58 last Wednesday before bouncing back to defeat Wayne State 68-62 on Saturday afternoon in Detroit.
Patrick Cartier leads the Chargers with 27 points per outing and is shooting 64.3 percent from the floor. Austen Yarian is contributing 8.5 points per contest while Kyle Goessler and Tavon Brown are averaging 7.5 and 7.3 points per game respectively. Yarian and Brown are the team's leading rebounders with 8.3 and 8.0 per outing respectively.
The Flyers lead the all-time series against Hillsdale 7-5 but the two sides have split the last four contests. Lewis won the last meeting between the two schools 68-65 on Dec. 17, 2019 at Neil Carey Arena.
Lake Superior State picked up its first two wins of the season last weekend defeating Westminster (Utah) in back-to-back contests. The Lakers won the first game last Friday 81-71 and then defeated the Griffins on Saturday 78-74.
LSSU has four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Malek Adams with 16.5 points per game while Justin Fischer is dropping in 15.5 per contest while Caden Ebeling is adding 15 ppg and and Xander Okerlund is at 13 points per outing.
The Lakers (2-0) host Finlandia on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. (CST).
Lewis is 5-0 all-time against Lake Superior State. The Flyers won the last meeting against the Lakers 84-57 at Neil Carey Arena on Dec. 21, 2019.
