Flyers Head To Show-Me State For Pair Of Contests

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – After being idle for 10 days Lewis University's women's basketball team returns to the court traveling to Missouri for a pair of games against No. 24 Truman State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and will play a makeup game at Rockhurst on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Last Timeout – The Flyers survived a late run to defeat Lindenwood 72-67 on Tuesday (Jan. 26). Sophomore Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led four Flyers in double figures with 15 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, junior Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) added 12 points while freshmen Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) and Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 10 points each.

Road Trip – Lewis has won five straight road games and is 6-1 on the road this season. Its lone loss came at Southern Indiana on Dec. 5. The Flyers are averaging 72.4 points per game on the road this season while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from three.

They've outscored their opponents by over five points per game on the road this season. Badali is averaging 14.3 points per game away from home while Schmidt and Hilber are averaging 12.6 and 11.7 points per outing respectively and freshman Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) is adding 11.3 points per contest.

GLVC Point Rating System – Lewis is currently ranked fourth in the GLVC point rating system which determines the eight teams that qualify for the GLVC Tournament in March. The top four seeds will host a quarterfinal game on March 2nd and then after the quarterfinal round games the highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship contests.

Stop Thief – Badali leads the GLVC in steals per game with 3.15 and is tied for the league with Maryville's Jayda Jensen with 41 steals. Badali is tied for second in Division II in steals and 11th in steals per game with 3.15.

As a team, the Flyers rank third nationally in steals with 149 and are 27th in steals per game with 10.6 per contest.

About Truman State – The Bulldogs enter Thursday night's game against UIndy with a record of 11-2 overall and in the GLVC and are ranked 24th in the first Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 poll of the season. They have won seven straight contests with the last three coming by the combined total of 14 points.

Sophomore guard Hannah Belanger has been on a scoring tear for Truman recently with 25 points or better in in the last three games. She scored 25 at William Jewell, 25 at McKendree and 26 at Southern Indiana to up her season scoring average to 19.5 points per game, fourth highest in the GLVC.

Senior forward Katie Jaseckas continues to rack up the double-doubles with another one last week at McKendree to make it five in her last seven games and seven out of 13 games this season. She has been in double-digit scoring in all but one game this year and is second on the team in scoring at 15.5 points per outing with 8.8 rebounds per contest.

Series History – Lewis leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 8-3, however Truman has won two of the last three meetings including a 76-66 win over the Flyers in the season opener for both teams at Neil Carey Arena back on November 27. Lewis is 4-1 all-time at Pershing Arena.

About Rockhurst – The Hawks enter Thursday night's contest against McKendree fresh off a 75-69 upset of top ranked Drury on Tuesday evening at the O'Reilly Family Events Center in Springfield, Mo. Rockhurst dominated the first quarter outscoring the Panthers 24-8 and was able to hold on for the victory. Keegan Sullivan led the way with 21 points while Daly Sullivan and Monika Faerber added 20 and 16 points respectively. The Hawks are currently 7-5 on the season and ranked fifth in the GLVC point rating system.

Series History – The Flyers are 13-1 all-time against the Hawks and have won 10 straight in the series. Last season, Lewis defeated Rockhurst 85-74 at Neil Carey Arena. Monday's matchup will be the seventh meeting at Rockhurst where the Flyers have won five of the first six contests. The two teams will meet again next Saturday (Feb. 13) at Neil Carey Arena a 1 p.m.

Up Next – The Flyers return home next Thursday (Feb. 11) hosting William Jewell at 5:30 p.m.
