ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lewis University baseball team opened its series with Missouri-St. Louis with an 8-2 win Friday (March 26) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at UMSL Baseball Field. The Flyers move to 6-7 overall, 4-5 in the GLVC, while the Tritons fall to 3-11 overall, 1-6 in the GLVC.
Lewis opened the scoring with five runs in the third inning.
Jackson Dvorak (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) started it off with a single, scoring
Dalton Crowder (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East).
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) then scored on a passed ball.
Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East) reached on an error, scoring Dvorak and
Michael O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) capped off the inning with a two-run homer, driving in Everett.
Missouri-St. Louis got on the board with an unearned run in the fifth inning, but the Flyers came back with two runs in the sixth as Dvorak doubled, scoring Rios and
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) to take a 7-1 lead.
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) reached on an error in the eighth, scoring O'Brien. The Tritons added a run in the ninth inning, but the final out of the game was made at third base.
O'Brien paced the offense with three hits, two runs and two RBI, while Dvorak had two hits and three RBI.
Brad Littleton (Coal City, Ill./) (2-3) earned the win, going eight innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run, striking out nine with no walks. Nick Torres (0-4) suffered the loss, allowing 10 hits and eight runs, one earned, in seven innings.
Lewis is scheduled to play two games with UMSL Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m.
