Lewis Men’s Lacrosse Falls To No. 17 Lindenwood, 15-10

Heath, Purfeerst and Dalep each scored twice for the Flyers

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team lost at No. 17 Lindenwood 15-10 on Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The Flyers drop to 2-3 overall and in the GLVC while the Lions are now 3-1 overall and in the conference.

Lindenwood scored three goals in the span of 3:17 to take an early lead but Lewis came right back scoring three times in less than three minutes including twice in the span of 18 seconds to tie the game by the end of the first quarter. Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School), Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) and Talon Heath (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) each had a goal for the Flyers.

The Lions regained the lead early in the second quarter as Peter Covington found the back of the net, however Lewis came right back less than 30 seconds later to tie the game on Thomas Purfeerst's (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) first goal of the contest.

Lindenwood regained the lead 36 seconds later as Leonard Jones scored the first of his five goals to make it 5-4. Jones struck again at the 5:38 mark to extend the Lion lead to 6-4. Dalep scored his second of the contest to cut the lead to 6-5 but Lindenwood got goals from Covington and Rob Tucker to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.

The Lions scored the first three goals of the third quarter to extend their lead to 11-5 before Purfeerst scored with 0:01 left in the quarter to make the score 11-6.

Lindenwood scored four of the first five goals in the fourth quarter to take its largest lead of the afternoon on Jake Rusk's first goal of the season. The Flyers scored three goals in the span of 0:52 to cut the lead to 15-10.

Dalep, Heath and Purfeerst each scored twice in the contest with Purfeerst also picking up an assist to finish the day with three points. Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) won 15 faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls. Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made 13 saves in goal.

The Flyers were outshot in the contest 48-42 and 29-22 in shots on goal. Lewis was 15-for-28 at the faceoff dot and scooped up 30 ground balls.

Jones had five goals and two assists for a total of seven points in the contest while Carter Collins scored four goals and had two helpers for six points. Blake Nolan made four saves in net while Connnor Ciemiewicz stopped eight shots.

The Flyers return to action on Saturday (March 20) when they travel to St. Louis, Mo., to take on No. 20 Maryville at 2 p.m.
