ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team ended its season on a high note with a 9-6 win over Maryville on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
The Flyers jumped out to an early lead as
Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored less than two minutes into the contest with an assist from
Keith Parkman II (San Diego, Calif./Serra). Nearly four minutes later Lewis extended its lead as
Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) scored on a man advantage with an assist from Daigle.
The Saints (7-5, 7-5 GLVC) got back-to-back goals from Jake Foster and Ben Foster to even the score at two by the end of the first quarter.
The Flyers regained their lead early in the second quarter as Parkman II scored with an assist from Daigle for his 11th goal of the season.
Maryville tied it again as Justin Morgan scored with an assist from Ethan Olson with 5:50 left in the stanza.
Lewis took the lead for good with two goals in the final three minutes of the half.
Talon Heath (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) scored his ninth goal of the season with an assist from
Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) with 2:48 remaining and then right before halftime Daigle scored his second goal of the contest on the man advantage with an assist from Purfeerst.
The Flyers dominated in the third quarter scoring three goals to extend their lead to 8-3. Parkman II scored his second goal of the game and then
Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Purfeerst each added a goal.
The Saints cut Lewis' lead in half early in the fourth quarter on Olson's second goal of the contest. This one coming on the man advantage.
Purfeerst scored the final goal of the game for the Flyers with less than four minutes to play for insurance.
Maryville scored twice in the span of 0:52 for the final margin.
Lewis outshot the Saints 42-26 including 23-17 in shots on goal. The Flyers forced 22 Maryville turnovers and scooped up 26 ground balls. Lewis was 21-for-22 in clear attempts and 2-of-6 on the man advantage.
Daigle, Parkman II and Purfeerst had two goals apiece while Andre, Stone and Heath had a goal apiece.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made 11 saves in goal for the Flyers.
Xan Brouillet (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) went 7-for-17 at the face off dot and scooped up six ground balls.
Lewis finishes its second season in program history with a record of 5-7 overall and in the GLVC.
