ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's volleyball team has been picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) East Division as announced by the league office on Thursday (August 26). The annual GLVC Volleyball Preseason Poll comprises each division's predictive order from the league's 15 head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own team.
The GLVC will be seperated into three divisions for the 2021 campaign: Central, East and West.
The Flyers posted a 17-2 record in the Spring 2021 season and won their first 16 matches of the season to claim the GLVC's Regular Season championship.
15th-year head coach
Lorelee Smith, the Spring 2021 GLVC Coach of the Year, returns five starters (including libero) from that team, including GLVC Libero of the Year
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West). Also returning are First Team All-GLVC selection
Ava Venema (Westmont, Ill./Timothy Christian) and Second Team All-GLVC selection
Amanda Greening (Metamora, Ill./Metamora).
Missouri-St. Louis is the preseason favorite in the Central Division, while Missouri S&T ranks atop the West Division.
Lewis opens its Fall 2021 season next Friday (Sept. 3) against Eckerd in the Flagler Saints Invitational in Eckerd, Fla. The Flyers home opener and GLVC opener will take place on Thursday (Sept. 16) against Quincy at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
